We are The Torquenados, and we are proud to be competing in our 10th season of Competitive Robotics. Our most notable achievements include winning the prestigious Chairman’s Award in 2016 and the FIRST Michigan State Championship in 2022. Our team has also won awards for Spirit, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Quality, and Excellence in Engineering. We are also proud to be known throughout the district as one of the friendliest and most cooperative teams to work with.
The Trenton Torquenados were formed in 2013 and maintained a team of 30-40 participants until COVID-19 abruptly ended our 2020 season. We returned to the build room in September of 2021 with half of our former sized team, but we had even more passion and drive than before. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive team where each member contributes their own unique talent.
As a member of Detroit and Downriver Robotics Alliance, our team participates in team building activities, social networking challenges, fundraisers, and community outreach. This helps us to increase interest in our STEM program.
This season, we’ll be attending the the FiM District Ferndale event and at the FiM District Belleville event.
The FiM Woodhaven Event at Woodhaven High School was largely a success. The first day we had 9 qualification matches and won 6. The second day we had 3 qualification matches and won 1. In the playoff matches we were in alliance 2 with team 6029 the Railbots and team 815 Advanced power. We won our first match against alliance 7, but encountered technical difficulties during or match with alliance 6, witch we lost. We also lost our match against alliance 1 in the lower bracket, causing us to be disqualified. We ranked 12th in the Qualification rankings. We were…
With Build week 6 coming to a close so has build season. And with its end comes competition season where our hard work will be put to the test. We hope that you are as pumped as we are!
This week we now have a second robot! along with the printing and assembling of coloring books and buttons, we have made significant progress towards being competition ready.
This week the TorqueNados have been simply loopy. Creating our own loop game pieces and loop earrings has got our heads spinning. We know we can keep these wheels turning into the FiM Woodhaven event in just 34 days.
The TorqueNados have been hard at work preparing for our FiM Woodhaven event happening in roughly 40 days. Shooting (and throwing) rings, and designing buttons, were pumped to see what the next half of build season has in store.
This week we made great progess On prototyping and finalising designs for various things. We hope that we can keep up the pace the rest of build season.
We started this Robotics season off strong, our build, programming, and business and media teams made great progress. Not only with the robot, but with other things such as locker posters and this website. We are exited to see what comes in the future!
On Saturday, January 6th, the TorqueNados were proud to kickoff the Crescendo season with a… crescendo! The Torquenados attended the DADARA kickoff in Southgate, and were amped to see what this season has in store for us.
On Saturday, November 11th, The JV TorqueNados attended our first event of the season at Forsythe Middle School in Ann Arbor, MI. We had a great time at the event, placing 16 out of 36. Throughout the event we showed improvement and growth from our robot to our ranking. Although we didn’t win every match, we learned every match, and we are more prepared than ever for our next event, FiM Bedford. “We will take everything that we learned back to the build room this week to make improvements and practice with the goal of a top ten finish next…
On Sunday, September 10th, the TorqueNados participated in another off-season event, the Goonettes Invitational. This all-girls event was held at Woodhaven High School and hosted by Goon Squad FRC 3604. It was our first competition of the school year. We did pretty well for having had almost no practicing time, we held steady around the middle of the rankings. We were the final pick of the number one alliance, and went on to get second place in the competition. It was a very competitive event, with several high-ranking teams participating. It was a successful start to our season and we…
The TorqueNados were charged up for our second tournament of the year in Belleville, Michigan, at Belleville High School. In typical fashion, we arrived at 8 in the morning and unloaded. The Drive Team came to set up and practice on the night of the 16th. The day was eventful, with plenty of TorqueNado spirit! So far, we’re off to a great start! We’re more than halfway through the qualification rounds and our current record is 6-2. Tomorrow we’ll have more games and try to secure our spot as an alliance leader!
Today, the TorqueNados woke up bright and early in order to get to Spring Arbor University. Snowstorms covered cars in snow and caused power outages in hotels, but the TorqueNados were ready for their second day. We arrived at the university and started our games, with the same amount of, if not more, TorqueNado spirit as yesterday. After the qualification rounds, our record was 6-6. We were fortunately picked for an alliance with team 3656, the DreadBots. We won our first match against alliance six, 102 to 97, which advanced us to the upper bracket. We were unfortunately eliminated in…
The TorqueNados braved the worst weather this year to compete in Jackson at our first tournament of the year! Spirits are high and the weather won’t stop our TorqueNado spirit from shining through! We arrived at Spring Arbor University at 8 in the morning on Friday the 3rd, and immediately got to work. Our scouts browsed the other teams to see who would be a good Alliance partner. During this, our drive team and our programmers did some last minute work on the robot and answered questions from other teams’ scouts. As the games started, everyone was very excited. Throughout…
